So after an absolutely breathtaking opening ceremony the 2012 Olympic games have begun. Something that has been building up for many years in London and the UK has now opened with an array of colour, sound and pure brilliance.

Something of a talking point particularly where I am concerned is the fashion and who designed what, Olympic fever is not just for the sport lovers, the fashion enthusiasts also take a huge interest. It is so wonderful to see Stella McCartney as the creative director for the GB kit creating pieces for the athletes that some have described as 'the best dressed olympians on the camp'

The olympics have also meant many designers and brands have been able to take advantage of this in the form of collaborations. With River Island teaming up with Adidas creating a 'street style' range as well as Marks and Spencer also joining with Adidas. While Stella McCartney was the lucky lady to have designed the kit for the athletes it was high street retailer Next who dressed the athletes in their opening ceremony tracksuits - this I shall not comment on, I will only question why Stella was not asked to design for this part of the event also.

Obviously it is not just Great Britain who are relying on their local talent to dress their Olympians. Italy's sailing team had Prada sponsor their kit with Giorgio Armani designing the official Italian team kit. The United States of America were also lucky enough to have the one and only Ralph Lauren create their outfits for the opening ceremony - definitely the most sophisticated looking country.

No doubt I will post a few other 'olympic' related posts as you simply cannot get away from it - and I LOVE it. Feeling very patriotic right now.
