Well, what's this?! Something that looks like it might be a new feature around here (that is, of course, if I can stick to it). I thought this would be a nice little opportunity to show you the best bits I'm layering up on my face each month.

January, the month where it's considered an achievement if you can 1. do your jeans up 2. arrive at work fully dressed and awake. I have to admit I'm struggling with both points right now. When you wake up in the morning to the sound of heavy rain hammering down, and you know you have that 15 minute walk to the tube and you're defintely going to be a drowned little rat by the time you arrive in the office... (me, today). That being said it's not all bad in January, for one it's my birthday so I really need a little more PMA to get me through the post Christmas blues.

This got me thinking, January is a month where I adopt a very 'simple' approach to most things, namely my makeup routine. I want something quick and easy that will let me stay in bed an extra 5 minutes (or 30 if today is anything to go by, oopps). Enter the January face, featuring a new foundation, mascara and eye shadow, calm down Katie, too much change!

Let's start with the base, a new foundation which is raved about throughout the beauty industry. It's Estee Lauders Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation. I'm not sure why I'd never taken the plunge but it's happened and I haven't looked back. Granted this is a very heavy coverage foundation to the point where I struggle to remove it all at the end of the day. I'm not sure how I feel about this but I'm not complaining in terms of longevity. I got colour matched in my local Boots store so the colour is perfect for me. I love how this has quite a matte finish which means a setting powder is not 100% necessary, all about the little steps making things more speedy in the morning. It also contains SPF so not good for a night out if you're planning the usual toilet photoshoot but perfect for everyday wear to protect your skin.

Now onto my bronzer which is 100% necessary come January. That tan that once was has well and truly gone, and my face is so pale I'm almost green... just me?! This is my all time favourite bronzer the Nars Laguna Bronzer. I just apply a light dusting to give me a bit of colour... Or a lot of colour depending on how I'm feeling.

I love a little glow so for that I am obsessed with my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in the shade 'soft and gentle'. Again I just swipe a light shimmer across my cheek bones. I think this makes me look a bit more awake and glowing, what more do you want on a gloomy January morning, hey?

Onto the eyes, a new discovery for me is this amazing mascara from Rimmel the Wonder Full Wake Me Up Mascara. The thing that caught my eye (sorry) with this was the fact it says it conditions your eye lashes and contains cucumber... now, not to be fickle but I'm all for looking after my lashes. I'm very much a creature of habit with mascara and have been using the rimmel Volume Flash for the past few years. I've made a make up resolution to try new brands this year and not get to stuck in my ways. So far so good as I've already found a product I love. This mascara gives volume and length, is easy to remove but also stays on for a full day without clumping or crumbling off. Staying with the eyes I've been loving this eye shadow from Nars in the shade 'savage'. In terms of eye shadows I always stick to brown/bronze shades as I think these compliment my eye colour the most and also I'm not brave enough to enter into the more colourful teritory! This eye shadow is a cream to powder formula and stays put for most of the day without getting stuck in the crease of your eye lids.

And last but by no means least is my favourite lip stick of all time, MAC Syrup. An easy to wear, everyday colour.

I hope you liked this new little addition to the blog and the first of many beauty posts to come. Happy Friday, hope you all have a wonderful weekend! x
